got the money then ITR with lsd and 4.7 final drive. B16a trannys are also fast revving trannys. Driving on the highway with a b16 tranny, youll be at a high rpm going 80 cause or shorter gears. gsr tranny has a tad bit of longer gear then b16 trannys and ls had the longest gears out of all. So you do the math
You can leave the GSR tranny on while you save money for a CTR/ITR tranny w/ built in lsd
Or--- You can machine work your GSR tranny with custom differentials and buy your own LSD.....

How does a tranny make you rev faster?
Ive heard that b16 trannys arent as strong as the rest of the b series family, but that might be bs. I would personally go with a 98 JDM ITR if you can find it. It will be $$$ though...

well my gsr tranny is on my gsr which is going into a hatchback any body have a itr trans lying around they wanna
sell
sell
i think you'd be happy with the gsr, especially if it's your daily driver, and your on the highway. much more comfortable/ better gas mileage than the itr.

Chuckle...that's funny. LSD=Limited Slip Differential. The ITR tranny comes stock with an excellent lsd. The ITR trannies come in 2 different types...one is the 96-97 spec which has 4.44 final drive, the other is the 98-00 with 4.785 final drive. I believe the 4.44 one's labeled N3E and the 4.785 is lableled J4D. The early cable b-series trannies are a bit more fragile than the later hydro trannies from what I have seen and heard. It's mostly to do with the synchro's. If you are worried about chewing up your gas on the highway with a high final drive tranny, either don't mod your car (you burn more gas with mods anyways) or get the LS tranny with a 4.2 final drive. Go to http://www.hondaswap.com . They have a list of tranny gears. The GSR tranny is great, but it does not have an LSD. For the cost, buying an ITR tranny with LSD already installed is probably your best bet. Getting a LSD installed in your gsr tranny will be costly. Especially the lsd itself. A good LSD from KAAZ, Quaife, ATS runs around $900, plus install. A honda oem lsd diff is about $400 on here. Save up for the ITR tranny, and then sell your GSR tranny once you've bought the ITR tranny.
I think Len still has a USDM ITR tranny laying around. Shoot him a PM.
Regarding gear ratios, the ITR/CTR/B16 tranny's all have the same gear ratios with the exception of the 98 spec JDM ITR tranny which has a GSR 4th and 5th gear and a 4.785 final drive. The GSR tranny has longer gears than the B16 tranny and the LS tranny has longer gears than the GSR tranny. The LSD that comes stock in the ITR/CTR is a helical unit and is much more effective than the viscous unit found in some JDM B16 and GSR tranny's.

No, you have it backwards, the 96 spec with the 4.4 is labeled J4D and the 98 spec with the 4.785 is labeled N3E.

You know how many times I keep ******* that one up? It boggles me. Brain's too full of useless knowledge...I guess I'm discarding important info to retain the useless stuff?! Thanks for the info. I hope I remember next time.
i would go w/ the GSR tranny, its a good median between shorter/longer gearing...
maybe i should get the sticker of my integra thats been on there for about 9 months i guess you should have copyrighted that name

sorry i didnt mean it in that way. I meant SHORT gear higher revs driving around.
You have HEARD that b16 trannys arent strong what is the definition of STRONG? Then why do the guys on here with ls motors swap there tranny out for a b16 tranny over a gsr? because it has shorter gears than a gsr...then it all leads back to preference and where you wanna go with it. For drag, daily driver, if you want to save gas or not, highway battles, and so on.

What kind of clutch will you be running? I heard some ITR trannies aren't as efficient with certain clutches. Only what I heard. I always planned on running the R tranny anyways. It'll be nice to have the LSD.

That's it...I'm asking my friend...J4D is the 98 and up spec...he has one on his ITR swap.

they have a graph of all the gear ratios for Honda trannies. I believe you have the S4C...it should be a 4.44 tranny.
