Default need advice: popping noises from intake filter at idle

does anyone know how to correct it? i've heard that it could be back fire in the intake manifold and the engine is too advanced during idle, so i retarded it...but it's still there.

the popping noise is more prominent when naturally aspirated or turbo charged....but less noticable when supercharged....so i think it might be something to do with the intake manifold side???

any thoughts?

with the supercharger, you would have to put your ear to the filter to hear it

but with the turbo or N/A, you can just stand next to the car with the hood down, and you'll hear it

its the ECU, so it is somehow related to fuel and/or timing control from the ECU.

I am one of those 3 people he was refering to. All of us had the same aftermarket standalone ECU. The original poster failed to mention that point of his setup.

this is why I say its the ECU, same thing going on as you. Standalone ECU that I'm presuming its untuned properly.

Hi, was wondering if the original poster solved the problem.
I have the EXACT same problem.
Im runnign a fully rebuilt, recon b20vtec.
Im running powerfc.
It popped from day 1, only on idle, 10-30 seconds apart.
It makes good power, but its annoying the hell outta me.
I changed Cam gears, changed cam timing, ignition timing, a/f ratio, injectors, throttle body. I opened up the intake manifold and there was NO CARBON build up on valves.
Im on the verge of selling the car away noW!!!

Could it be the powerfc?
