Launching the Type-R
Going to the track today(dragstrip) and was wondering are there any specific ways to launch, like what rpms, dumping the clutch, etc.. This will be the first time for me and was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers or tips.
Did a search and didnt find anything.
All feedback is appreciated. Thanks

I tried a bunch of different launches
I launched on Bridgestone RE730s (think thats what they are) at a 5k slip of the clutch
That resulted in a 2.31 60' time
Other time slipping the clutch at 5.5k and 4.5k and 4k resulted in slightly worse times...just give it a try and see

In my opinion,
Try feathering the clutch. Hold it half-way before the clutch is ready to be engaged. Add some gas. I'm usually about 2500-3000Rpm and then let the clutch go at the yellow light right before the green.
Leave you foot planted on the gas and when your about to redline press the clutch half way but at the same time leaving your foot on the gas.
I used this method and I only been to the track 3 times. I managed a 14.3 @96.6 with sloppy reaction time(.898)
on stock tires with 22 psi.

I used to launch at 3000 rpm and would get a 60ft of about 2.3. for some reason though I would get better times launching at higher rpms 4000-5000 w/ a slower 60ft of about 2.4- 2.5
I only have a 1/8 mile track and I managed a 9.604 @75.25 mph witha 2.353 60 ft. time. Does that sound normal? I think I feathered the clutch at about 5K. Is there anything that I can do to improve my times? There is a guy here that ran a 9.5XX in his GSR with a header on it. How much faster should my car be with the same driver? I know the ITR and the GSR is pretty much ever when it comes to torque, so should the times be around the same in the 1/8? I think I had about 20 psi in my tires too.
Thanks! Corey

for me, my best times came from stock tire pressure (35/33) on the stock RE010's, holding revs ~3,800 rpms, slipping the clutch, holding it there for a sec while stepping thruthe gas, and then releasing and flooring the gas....not too healthy for the clutch tho
but it gave me 2.26-2.301 60's so im not complaininghopefully this spring i'll have some new tires and hit that 14.3 i should be running
yea how do you do a burnout (w/ e-brake) properly without smoking your clutch?
I've tried it and it doesnt work very well (of course i let go of the gas after i realized the wheels arnt spinning)

i like to dump it around 5k or 6k, i find that when i dump at a lower rpm the motor bogs and i get a mid 14 sec pass, when i dump it higher i usually get a low 14 sec pass, i got nitto street slicks and clutchmasters stage 1 clutch right now, but had about 30k on the stock clutch before the pressure plate went, i was racing the car since break in at 500 miles.
good luck
and if you're not breaking you're not trying hard enough.........lol
