nailed it on that one. they are the same casting, but honda just took little more time and love on the hype R heads. in the best motoring volume one, the type R legacy, they show you how they do it in the factory. its kinda cool to think about how hands on the honda type R series is.

Jay...its a 98 head. They didnt make a b16 head in 98. They stopped in 95 and then back up again in 99. If it says 98 on it, its a type R head

B16 and ITR head is the same, both engines run on Single stage intake manifolds too.
Only the internals are different.

ITR - Dual intake and exhaust valve springs
more aggressive cam
lighter valves,
more aggressive camshaft profile
Port and polishing

But intake ports are diferent for each head right? I always thought that ITR heads needed a specific intake manifold.

actually there is such a thing as 98 b16a heads. cuz the castings are made in 98 for some of the 99 cars. also jdm b16a's 96+ motors as well.

I have a '96 JDM ITR head that is stamped PR3-2.

It should have dual valve springs on both the intake and exhaust. Do a search for lobe heights to verify the camshafts.

Buy the head used? You may have been taken. Can't see why anyone would remove the inner exhaust spring, if you catch my drift .

B16 and ITR manifolds are interchangeable, as far as bolting up to the head. GSR is different and won't bolt up (without considerable modification).

Should have dual valve spring on both sides. Also look for the blue paint on the exhaust springs and yellow paint on the intake springs.

Search owns you. There are hundreds of threads here on how to decipher which cams you have by identifiying the rings/grooves on the distributor and cam cap side.

The ITR uses a different intake manifold. But it doesn't need one. The B16A and ITR manifolds are interchangeable.
