How fast can you swap out an engine?
I live in the good old golden state and our smog laws are tighter than a condom that is 3 sizes too small. One of the problems with performance mods is that it makes passing smog impossible (especially a turbo kit).
I thought it would be faster to swap a complete engine (same type) rather than unbolt the turbo kit, take out the injectors, swap in stock ECU, fpr, fuel rail, etc etc etc... until you are basically stock. At least this way you basically have a turbo engine and stock engine... swap out everything else (aem ems etc...) and hopefully when you put the turbo goodies back in you dont need to retune ... I hope. (and if the sh*t hits the fan with your turbo engine you have a backup
)
Also remember that you will need to do the swap every other year, so I am assuming that you will get rather good at this and can get it done within 2 hours with some practice and the right tools.
On average how long would it take you to swap in an engine of the same type into your car (from the moment you pull in and pop your hood, to the time you can drive it out and get smogged).

2 HOURS??? Holy ****.
I'm doing a swap this Friday/Saturday.... hopefully I can pull the 2 hour swap! LOL! **** if I get it done in 2 days I'm happy.
Did you remove the hood or just pull it all the way back?

remove the hood, much easier to work that way
always remember to put bolts back in holes where they came from
have a process in mind, write it down if need be
I have done tranny swaps so many times before that I can do that in about 45 minutes without a tranny lift or having the car in the air completely
always have atleast 2 people, 3 at the most, there is such a thing as too many hands on a motor
always have your next motor ready to go so you are not worried about "well did I do this?" after it is already in
the process is all about being prepared and having a plan of action

The world record is 1:37. But that was on a volkswagon. Here's a video of it:

One of the biggest things that would make it quicker is sensors. If you have two seperate wiring harnesses you will only have 4 plugs to unplug and replug. If you are using just one harness you will have to undo every sensor and every injector every time. That is very time consuming.
:crosses fingers: hope the engine I'm getting has a wiring harness attached, I bet it doesn't. I'll find out Friday, thanks for the tips.
that video's insane, at first I thought that was 1 hour 37 minutes. WOW.

2 hours with a hoist deff. possible. I can do my car, 99" accord coupe 4cyl on the ground with jack stands start to finish from the time I pull in the garage to the time I fire up the new motor in about 5-6 hours
. Mind you this is by my self no one else helping. Just did a 90 teg over the weekend and had it done and running in about 5 hours
Just bust some *** and keep every thing in order, its alot easier that way.

A trick I found for realighning the hood is to trace in permanent marker/washable if u wish the mounts/hinges. Made it a lot easier on my buddy's car (not a honda).
