something is wrong in my ride
today i was on my way to work, shifted to second at about 5 and a half rpm, something make a cracking noise. next thing i know my car isn't reving correctly and the clutch isn't grabbing for **** then when it grabs i don't have much torque. i went to a parking lot and popped my hood, my motor was making a sound as if there were bolts and nuts getting thrown around inside of the motor like just loose metal getting bounced off the head or something. some dude pulls over and takes a look and tells me it sounds like a blown piston, i thought i was dead dude ahhah. i was trippen calling people for help and new motors for sale anything just freaking out. i drive home and on the way get stuck at a light. take off real slow (clutch still not grabbing and the noise still happening) after i shift second the noise seems like less loud then out of nowhere the noise completely stops and motor is running fine. i stop at another light and rev and everything sounds fine. i turn my car on and off a few times and its fine everytime. the only thing now is that my clutch still isn't grabbing but my clutch has been burnt for a while anyways and i already knew i needed to replace it. what could this possibly be? i'm scared to drive far and breakdown so my car is sitting at home. is it fine to drive for now as long as i don't mash on it or should i get a new clutch and flywheel asap? please let me know what you guys think!
Do a tear down on the transmission off the engine. Inspect/replace your clutch. Hopefully something from your clutch or pp broke and that was the noise you heard. But when you first mentioned it i though you blew a rod.
your clutch might have taken a **** on you. when u step on the clutch does the noise go away? when u let go and the clutch is engaged does the noise come back? i woud check your clutch ,pressure plate, throw out bearing, release bearing. good luck bro
yeah someone told me it could be something with the throw out bearing....i was just curious on everyone else's opinion. the noise is completely gone now but when i accelerate the car goes almost nowhere due to the clutch slipping. the motor is running fine though which is what was worrying me the most. i'm supposed to get a new clutch and flywheel in about 4 weeks...will driving from home to work (4 blocks) and occasional few more blocks for food or gas be ok or should i just wait till i get the parts put on?
I wouldn't drive it. There might be something that broke off can/might/will cause some serious damage. Just park it and change clutch.
"but when i accelerate the car goes almost nowhere due to the clutch slipping."
hmmmm, question to anyone, i have a d16z6 with 138k on it. the clutch is liek an on off switch very tricky but i figured it was jsut how hondas are. it also seems to me that its getting slower *not alot it just seems it, ive put 4k on it since i bought it* could this be due to an old clutch? is it gradual or does a clutch just go all at once like it sounds up there?

your clutch wears down like anything used in a car, because of constant use. Its not noticible till the last days of it, where it may seem like it goes all at once, but it is gradual

why did u shift to second at 5.5 k??
usually depending on the miles and the gearing of the car you should shift earlier. I usually shift mine at 3k/3.5k.
Sounds like a throwout bearing to me but still you could have over reved it

not to be threadjacker or anything, i just had the same type of question about the tranny/flywheel/clutch. my clutch ( 93 civic hatch cx ) wen i start the car and release the clutch....it makes a air wooshing sound type thing, and wen i take off very slowly, and get to some certain rpm, it makes like.........some wierd noise, like my tranny has vtec, the sound changes. and wen i floor it to get on the freeway, i hear a super charger type whining coming from my car/tranny. i got my timin belt changed and the tech said that it was the transmission bearing, anybody know if there is anything more specific than "transmission bearing"?? thanks for the help.
dude you can have this thread ahah....umm o yeah i was shifting higher cus i had to speed up to catch up to traffic after turing right onto a main road but i didn't wanna slam cus my car was still warming up
