Loud Rattling Noise?
So on my way to work yesterday i had to quickly switch lanes so i took off from the light quickly due to tons of traffic on market...so as im shifting into second i grind some gears....which shocked me...so i get to work think nothing of it and park the car...come out for break and get in turn it on...and the car is suddenly rattling like at odd times...if i rev it and hold it at a certain RPM it rattles LOUD..but if i rev up all the way it goes away..it also doesnt make noise when cruising..?? Sometimes does it at a low tone when idling at a light.
I was thinking it was my clutch cover that came loose but just jacked the car up and nothing is loose under there...i have no idea what it is...
it sounds like metal is rattling against something like a heat shield or something...
Any ideas?
god i hope my tranny isnt done....

Re: Loud Rattling Noise?
Also my clutch is almost done i think..its been in there for 2 and half years and it takes almost forever for it to catch when i let out the pedal here recently...i think it slips too when i get on it in first gear it doesnt seem to have the pull like it used too...
could it be the springs in the clutch making that loud noise?
i have no idea what the noise is...its really annoying i hope its not my tranny like the input shaft bearing but the tranny goes into gear fine and shifts smooth without any problems

Loose exhaust heat shield?
With the front end on stands, crawl under the engine and have a buddy rev the engine. This may help you pinpoint the source of the noise.

Nope have aftermarket header dont have any type of sheilds on the car except the Clutch Cover shield. Just got home from work and it seems to happen randomly..sometimes it will do it during idle and sometimes it wont make any noise until i step on the gas and it only happens for a while when im accelerating then goes away after a certain RPM then also comes back moment i shift gears then goes away..
god its so annoying...putting it on the lift tommoro during class and im going to take a rubber mallet and hit on things to find where its coming from also going to have a buddy get in and put it on jackstands

No thats the thing car is find and shifts smooth no tranny problems or anything it just started to randomly rattle yesterday...and it happend after i grinded 2nd gear then parked the car came back to it for lunch and all of a sudden it was rattling...idk what it is..i dont have any heatsheilds on the car. And im running a resonated test pipe...
although when i had the hood popped and revved the car it seemed my Resonated Test pipe was moving around a little bit...going to look into that also tommoro when its on the lift.

Even if ur runnin a test pipe there is still another heatshield below the floor.
It goes like this:cat,2heat shields bolted on the cat;another heatshield above the cat.yeah it's overkill but that's y hondas r so reliable.
Take the other heatshield off and see if it goes away.

Re: Loud Rattling Noise?
I'd say the grinds just coincidental and probably doesn't have to do with the rattles but I might be wrong.

oooo yea your right there is a heat shield above the cat...forgot about that one going to check on that tommoro.
I hope the grind has nothing to do with the rattling noise...because the trasmission is perfectly fine and shifts smooth and goes into gear fine..just have a clutch that is on its way about thats about it.
