Default help shfting into reverse

I did a couple searches on transmission problems but I couldn't find anything about this. Lately I have been having trouble shifting into reverse. Sometimes I cant even push the shifter into the gear, and other times i feel like it should be in gear and it just grinds. Today I could get it into reverse somewhat easier, but then I had trouble getting it out. I have tried turning the car off and on and moving the gear selector around. I am becoming very annoyed and worried that this might be a big problem, as this is my only car. It is a JDM B16 and it has been in the car for two months with no problems, and it does not have problems shifting into any other gears. Does anyone have some insight as to what might be the cause? Thank you in advance
-Kevin

in the car's i've worked on and driven, its a pretty common problem. Its not too serious, but shouldnt be taken lightly either. Reverse is the most comon i've dealt with b/c of the nature of the gear...if you cant seem to shift into rev you're engine a little bit ,so the teeth on the drive shaft can line up with the gear to the engine and the idle gear (which is where the grinding often comes from). and also for grinding, make sure your car is at a complete stop (again, there are 2 gears which have to go into place for reverse). You may want to check the level of transmission fluid in your tranny, and either replace it or just top it off. you can use factory fluid or just regular 10w-30.
hope thats helpfull

The linkage has nothing to do with grinding of gears, unless your linkage is totally screwed up, and as for putting it into gears, if the others work, more importantly 5th gear, your linkage should be fine

heres another tip before going into reverse put the car in 1st gear move foward a little (doesnt have to be that much just a little) then make sure the car isnt moving and put it in reverse. works for me everytime.
