Default Oil Consumption

Hallo Guys...
My name is Marco, from Rome (Italy)...
I'm a Prelude H22A2 '94 180k Km owner... (since one month)

This is my problem:
My car seems to burn too much oil...
in particolar aI noticed 1 liter consumption the first 1000 km...
I added the necessary oil and I tryed to run very fast for 250 km (80% in VTEC)...
...what a bad surprise!!! I need another liter of oil!!!!!!! Damn
I added another liter of oil and I tryed to drive 120-130 kmh (always at max 4000 rpm) for 300 km after that there wasn't any oil consuption

- my mechanic made the compression test and told me that all is ok....
- the car doesn't make any kind of smoke (from 1000 to 8200 rpm)....
- the car seems to to burn "drink" oil only in VTEC cause if I drive under 4000 rpm all is ok!!!

Please help me!!!!!!
I'm worried!!!!

h22's are known to burn oil, especially when you're always in vtec.

simple solution: don't go into vtec too much, if you do, stock up on oil.

I did not know that honda preludes where ever sold in italy so does that make it a euro spec or a japan sepc import... yeah vtec can cause oil consumption but more than likely it is the rings in the engine a way to check this is to dp tow compression checks one while the car is still hot and one after it cools down if there is a variance in the numbers then this is caused by the rings ----

ummm...well, italy is in europe, so....

and yeah, if its not chowing on oil out of vtec, but it does use oil in vtec, that sounds like pretty normal consumption

But 1 liter of motor oil in 250 kilometers sounds like too much to be a normal consumption even if I always drive in vtec rpm...
Isn't it???

my lude 5th gen burns a lot of oil also. you did burn too much oil. but there could be a lot of reasons. A) vtec. B) maybe u might wnat to use 10-30 or 15-30 for highmileage car. it wont stop it completely but it will burn slower than 5w-30 from my experience. i could be wrong. but yes 5th gen do burn oil. please keep us posted maybe what u will learn will help us not burn as much oil.

ahhhh be nice it's not burning, it's consuming. A little more than me if I converted km's right, but not too bad, I always carry a qt, or in italy a litre with me
