Default Need help with lubrication

I need some advice with a recurring problem. I have an LS/Vtec and I rev it to 9.5K and had to tear it down twice to notice that the crank got scratched. This happened on the rod end. I have a B18b block with a TypeR oil pump. I put in 4 quarts both times and it happened anyway. Can I just put 5 quarts in to ensure the bottom end or do I need to get a moroso pan to get the benefiit of those quarts.

What can be done to ensure the bottom end since I'm planning on revving even higher on the track only motor.

The problem is not the quantity of oil in the oil pan. If you are road racing, a baffled oil pan will rectify the problem of oil starvation. It sounds more like an engine assembly problem-i.e. bearing clearances.

I'm drag racing. I changed the crank after the first time. This second crank is just slightly scratched, to the point that having it polished would fix it. I just want to prevent a major failure. I've been told that at that RPM range the oil pump would be sending too much oil to the upper part of the engine leading to starvation on the bottom end and hence the results on the crankshaft.

I need advice from people that have gone through the same situation, so I can get it straightened out.

I wind the stock oil pump in my Civic to 10,000 rpm. I just tore the motor down a couple of weeks ago, and the rod bearings look brand new. Take a close look at your bearing clearances and inspect your oil pump. Check the oil pan pick-up screen for signs of clogging. Check everything.

So no need for a moroso oil pan. Just check the clearance and everything should be good to go, right. Thanks for the advice.

I would not say you are good to go. You need to figure out the cause of your problem. There is a reason your cranks are getting scored.

I did have a minor leak and didn't check the oil level regularly enough. You think that may have been it or is the pump acting up. What would be acceptable oil pressure since I don't recall what mine was. I'll ask my tuner but let me know what you think.

On a fresh motor build you should always put 5 quarts in.
