Default more power from dohc zc or d15b

both of these engines have pretty much the same stock power, one with vtec the other dohc. which would be easier to build for more power, and which would be a better swap for a 91 civic hatch dx? the zc parts are harder to find ive noticed. just wondering which could be built better and which accels better.

i take it you mean a d16z6 or y8... and it'll be easier to find parts for the SOHC...

dohc zc has more torque, and they love forced induction, just get a dohc zc

If the DOHC ZC is in better shape go for it over the sohc engines. It's just a more responsive motor overall. If you can't find one in good enough shape, get the sohc engine, but try to get a DOHC ZC. I'd get a d15b vtec over a sohc zc.

I vote DOHC ZC with Si trans as the best combo (of the above choices).

With a Greddy kit and crappy fuel management, I was able to make decent power and somehow not blow the motor up even with extremely crappy a/f ratios.

HP/TQ vs Dollar amount the DOHCZC wins in both. Availibility is what most ppls problem is, but here in Cali DOHCZCs are abundant. Plus, I've driven a car with the d15b/vtec and my DOHCZC and my DOHCZC runs game on d15b/vtecs with the same mods. But then again, my motors pretty stout, 195 across all cylinders. The thing is, you'll be able to get valve-train/head parts much easier than with a DOHCZC. I guess its all in preference, if your in Cali and you drive to my house, ill take you for a ride in my rex, then maybe you can find some1 with a d15b/vtec and see the difference for yourself. Just my opinion. - Darrell

Depends on what part of CALI you're looking at
In southern CALI there are different classes of people like everywhere else
Like in the Irvine/South OC B series/Custom Turbo set ups are whored out cux they got the $$$$$$$$
in the 909(18" lifted trucks minimum) where people are more budget minded homemade Turbo setups RULE
but I hafta say the DOHC ZC is pretty common over here despite not being smog legal
I've even seen them at local junkyards in "EF" cars.

If you go with ZC wich is a pretty nice motor (i run one myself), you might have to do a little modification with your hood or just get a zc hood. It's a tight fit with the cam gears so...thats my 2 cents.
