CRVTEC / LSVTEC Turbo Oil Tap questions answered *searched*
I couldn't find anything in the archives so I figured I would start a new thread that would get some answers and be easily searched for future reference...
Anyway, I am in the process of installing my T3/T4 onto my CRVTEC (b20b/pr3) and have finished everything all the way up to the oil feed.
Now, my question is... If I split my tap at the back of the block with a 4-way or similar ( I just don't want more than 2 fittings protruding from the block, that's just nasty and trouble waiting to happen...) and am feeding the head, sender, and the turbine... am I going to be running oil pressure thin?
Any suggestions on size of line I should switch to... basically is it worse for it to be too small, or obviously too big but I guess I just want to know what the optimal size would be...

One of the things you can do is to put an oil pressure reducer before the turbo. It will keep the turbo from seeing too much pressure, as well as keep some of the pressure in the motor. Most people just run standard 1/8" NPT braided steel lines.

Wade, thanks for the link... I have all the fittings and started doing that last night, then decided to find another way as I just don't like the idea of an assembly sticking out that far... all it takes is me slipping changing an oil filter or something and risking stripping that tap out...

You arent supposed to put brass fittings straight in the block like that. The vibration will cause stress fractures and it will eventually snap off. You should run a line off the block and tee of everything from there. Like this, only you will have 1 more tee for the turbo.
Done properly, you would attatch the fittings to the firewall for support and vibration insulation.

6AN line to the cyl head, I do not suggest smaller than that
4AN or 3AN to the turbo
I actually use a 6AN feed from the oil filter adapter to the cyl head, my turbo feed is 4AN and is tee'ed off from the 6AN line just before entering the cyl head. I do use a restrictor (size of the hole depends on a traditional oil bearing or a new ball bearing turbo). I have yet to have any problems. Still if you stick to the above sizes you won't have any issues with lack of supply.
