i'd have to say the older 2.0
from my understanding the suspension on the older car is more suited to spirited driving.
i think the newer toned down suspension setup is geared more for the older crowd.

which is what i've heard from a lot of people, not that i've driven back to back. But i've heard the 2004+ suspension is a lot less "squigley" and easier to control @ the limits. And also gives a much smoother ride as compared to the 00-03. For all you guys thinking about switching to 04+ suspension...stop there...w/ just the thought of it. Switching over to 04+ suspension is very tedious and expensive, because SO many parts and components were changed.

After driving quite a few of both (before we bought our 04...) id have to say the 04 felt more nimble, but didnt feel as powerful, then again i didnt drive the 00-03 everyday, and our 2004 feels alot more powerful than it did when we first got it so i imagine it would talk alot of driving in both to form a good solid opinion legitimately as to which you yourself liked better...
I prefer the styling of the 04 more myself...headlights especially.

I like the older styling. Dont know why but there's too much going on with the new rear taillights. I hardly consider the new suspension "suited for old people". They havent softened it THAT much. My gsr had an easier ride quite frankly.

exactly which parts? so would you say an after market coilover suspension kit from an 00-03 wont fit into an 04??

there's a little info there, but it really doesn't go into detail about part chances. search around, especially on s2ki or vtec.net...i know i saw an article on one of the two, and thats where i found out changing over from 00-03 to 04 would be a pain.

I owned a 2000 and now a 2004. My 04 beat an 01 w/header by almost 2 cars from 15-120 (stock at the time)... that should tell you something.
i am much more happier with defintiely more noticeable torque and I love the gearing!!! headlights and taillights are better also. gauge cluster has a clock too. 2 cup holder instead of 1.
the new 04's compression is barely higher than the pre-04s. My stock 2000 dynoed at 196.4 to the wheels while my stock 04 dynoed @ 206.7... there's more proof
I am much happier with my 04 over my 00.

you're happy with it. but still everything that you have said doesn't really prove to much to me, and it shouldn't really prove too much to anyone else either (not being an ***, but you have to read more into whats there sometimes.) the street race may be good, put there are too many variables ina situation like this. i'd like to see a race between two s2ks under ceteris paribus (all things being the same). and the hp difference between the two cars, thats one thing...but you also have to think about other factors...increased weight, revised gearing (great in most cases, but might require an extra upshift in some cases), etc. Especially in the case of added weight, adding hp/tq doen't necessarily make it faster.

The word from Honda is that the new engine is faster in 0-60 (due to gearing and earlier peaks) but the old one is faster in the quarter mile (due to the longer powerband). I don't know the source.
Simba, what else is different besides the shocks/springs and the sway bar and some bushings? Did they change to new control arms, too?

there's always something that will be different.
when i raced my friends 01. he had a passenger and so did i and they weighed almost the same (off by like 5-10lbs)
both of us had the top down...
anyways, i like my 04 better. everyone has their opinion though

2000-2003 ...
9k redline..
even though some of the interior features are better on the new ones... and i also like the new rear bumper more... but its a personal prefrence..
if you want a white 01 .. im selling mine .. with minor mods and a 7 year 100k Honda warrenty

well, you have to realize with a thread like this, the 00-03 people are going to be biased towards their model year, and the 04 people will be biased towards theirs.
with that said, i like 2000-2003 most. i like revving the **** out of it to get to the powerband. a lot of people say "but the '04 feels faster!"
well if i changed to 4.77s i will have the same snappiness and still maintain my 8900 redline. different strokes for different folks i suppose
