Default Puddle - 1, me - 0

so i got into a fight with a puddle several weeks ago. stock b16, luckily i didnt put a rod thru the block, instead i bent valves and rods. i had been planning on running the tech43 stroker kit anyways, now this was just a perfect motivational tool! haha anyhow, ive got the piston kit already, my head is at portflow, and im picking up pieces here and there to get this thing off the floor and moving, but i thought id post up some pics after the demolishing of the stock USDM b16 monday motor. enjoy!

block in car with head off to diagnose problem (like that was real hard, i sucked up water duh)...there was a good 5cm of water resting atop each piston...

mMmm rusty sleeves, my favorite, and yes thats a vine growing behind my block, haha the car sat for 3 weeks.

bare head. easy to do, i used a snap-on valve pull and some pliers. the dual valve springs were the harder to undo, but just hit them a few times, and theyll come out. make sure youve got a folded towel on the bottom side of the head for the valve you are removing as well. the valve seats were hardly rough, nothing a valve job wont fix!

after all is said and done, the valvetrain is out. now its time for omnipower and portflow.

im going to do an entire "how to" when i get the block and head machine work finished on the stroker piston kit from tech43, probably here in this same thread. so with a little luck and some fine tuning, ill be back on the streets in no time, NOT running a CAI again!

I had the same thing happen to my B16 last June. Apparently there isn't any drainage here in West Texas. I was trying to go around a puddle but apparently the rains had been so bad that some of the actual road had been washed away so I my car basically fell into a hole in the ground. Water came in through the lower vents. Luckily I noticed it immediately as my dash lit up like it was Christmas. Pulled my foot off of the gas and just coasted through. Like a moron, I tried starting it up when I got it to the side of the road and then quickly stopped when it wouldn't turn over. Surprisingly, nothing bad happened to the motor-had the car towed to the dealership, they waited a few days for it to dry out, changed all of the fluids and sparkplugs, and the car started right up. Kinda sad though: with the insurance money at the time I was hoping to go with a B18C5 or a B16B and stoke it if the motor was toast. Oh well, I still love my B16. Anyway, good luck with the build.
