Default CEL at WOT... no idea why

alright, so i've noticed more and more lately, that if i tip into WOT, i will throw a CEL that resets after you turn the car off. I pulled the code, and it is a code 7, which is TPS. now why would i be getting a code for the TPS sensor only at WOT? drivability is perfect, so i'm a little confused.

any ideas?

perhaps the computer is seeing a misalignment between throttle position and MAP readings?

yeah, its completely weird... it seems totally random, save for WOT. it is just as likely to happen if the engine is hot or cold, 2000rpm or 7000 rpm.... makes no difference.

Try swapping the TPS with someone elses for a second and see if it does it. If it doesnt then problem solved. HTH

Here's my suggestion to you for your future TPS swappage. Take a dremil and slot the stud/screw thingys on the TPS and then just unscrew it. Then you can even reattach it later on.

Yeah that brought to mind a voltage problem cause if its only at WOT that means the sensor is only malfunctioning at a certain voltage not all the time, it might need adjusting

i understand about readjusting the TPS voltage, but why would it need readjusting when i've never touched it? your suggestion does make sense though, considering the CEL only comes on at WOT, where the ecu compares TPS signal to MAP signal for determining whether or not to activate the vtec solenoid.
i suppose i should try to datalog it to see exactly what it's doing.

ugh... looks like i have a fun project for the weekend.

and now, for future reference, you all know that you can drive with the TPS inactive.
