Default I want some clarification

OBD

I know there is OBD-1 FOR SURE.

The question is - what was there for our cars that are clearly not OBD-1???
(Just some terminology clarification.)

To my understanding it should be OBD-0.
non-OBD should probably refer to carburated engines before PGMFI like 1987 cars and older.

So, what OBD is for 1988~1991 cars for sure (if you really know!) -

Your asking if non-obd and obd-0 are the same thing?

non-obd = all years up to 91.

And FYI pgmfi was around before 88.

First Honda car to get it was the 85 CRX.

OBD meas On Board Diagnostics

A unit that monitors the Electric Control Unit and system responses for errors during normal vehicle operations. When the vehicle is serviced, this information on the errors can be down loaded and displayed to the service personnel which will facilitate the trouble shooting process.

OBD0 or Non-OBD is 91 and older
OBD1 is 92-95 this is when it started to monitor SOME of the emissions devices
OBD2 is 96+ this is when obd started to find faulty devices and was able to notify the driver alot sooner to there being a problem with an emissions device.

Some of the 94 and 95 vehicles were equipped with OBD-II, but not that many. You can tell by looking on the emissions lable under the hood.

and I believe OBD3 is soon to be here.

It just a model of OBD's.
It was just non- OBD in early models, and they decided to add emission control. And name it OBD0, OBD1, OBD2, etc...
Because the chassis is made for that 1 model
That why you have to wire up the system if you want to use older or newer OBD's

Just like:
Sony Playstation
Then Playstation 1
Then Playstation 2
a little upgrade for emissions

Cool - did some serching through many internet pages and came up with this...

http://pgmfi.org/resources/FAQ/#whatisobd

OBD-1 was the first release of OBD.
Anything before that is pre-OBD or non-OBD.

There is no such thing as OBD-0, but some of us Honda people seem not to know that

So, the line-up is;
pre-OBD (non-OBD) anything before 1992.
OBD-1 92~95
OBD-2 96+
