Default short shifter PROs & CONs

what's a good short shifter for the crx ? does it make a difference what type of tranny you have ? pro's and con's to having one ?

just wondering what other benefits there are to having one beside being able to shift into gears faster.

Say hello to notchiness and more syncro grinds when shifting. I personally like the feel of short shifters but will chew through trannies if you don't shift correctly.

I will just say don't get a shifter that is too short because this usually means increased effort when changing gears unless they move the pivot point for more leverage. You want something that is shorter than stock but still smooth. A notchy shifter probably takes longer or the same time to shift than a smooth one with a longer throw. If you do find that the shifter is too notchy you can extend the lever for more leverage by means of a height adjustable lever or simply weld on more metal.

I don't understand why there's all this fuss about short shifters. It's simple:

1) There's a shorter throw
2) Since there's not as much leverage, yes, you do need to apply slightly more pressure. Unless you've got girly arms, there's no point in even discussing this point any further.
3) It's notchier.
4) Trannies/Syncros mess up because of a driver's inabilty to shift correctly. Don't blame it on a piece of steel/aluminum for your errors.
5) Bearing/bearingless. My SS doesn't have a bearing, but i did torque it down to the correct specs, which yielded stock shifter-like movement. Maybe a bearing SS might feel different, but if you're coming from a stock shifter, a bearingless one won't feel any different.

A short shifter isn't really for performance. It's more for "shift feel." With a decent made short shifter you'll never grind as long as the linkage is properly adjusted. My Skunk2 never grinds my ancient cable tranny.

And make sure you get a round wheel, they roll better
The bends make no difference, the ones with the bend are originaly made for the integras cause of the cupholders but you can use them if you want.

I can not possibly think of one con to a short shifter.

Try and get a solid one.
But just so you know any shifter can break, I killed a OEM shifter.
Sometimes I dont know my own strength

get a 94-01 integra shifter! they feel the best and are OEM. The shift feels perfect in an ED and sits your shift **** a lot lower and feels great...dont have to worry about synchros either

keep factory shifter, i have gone through 2 shifters (ebay and dc sports) both broke. go with a 00-01 integra type r modified to fit. nicest feel, short, and strongest youll get with out destroying your cd deck, tranny, and hand
got mine for $80 brand new

i can. i can shift a stock shifter fast enough to grind gears why do i need it to shift any faster
my first car i had a short shifter in, i bent shift fork (trying to force it into gear becasue i was shifting fster than the synchros could do thri job) and ruined synchros.

in the end u are moving the fulcrum, and ytou are going to be using more force to change gears. it feels notchier which is good thing in some peoples books. but after i toasted that one trans i cannot put one on any car i own again
