92 Accord won't start
92 Accord LX, 154k on the clock, auto transmission. Car will not start at all.. cranks all day but will not turn over. I didn't hear the fuel pump engage but I was in the front seat.. are the pumps loud on these cars? Also didn't see a fuel pump fuse.. do they have one? The car had been idle surging a little bit the past week, and the light around D4 is flashing. Any help is appreciated.
you might have a problem with your distributor..test it..
you need someone to help you on this:
unplug the # 1 spark plug wire on the engine head and stick a philips screw driver inside....try turning on the car and if you see a spark when your compadre turns the key..then its not the distributor.
unplug the fuel line from the fuel rail and see fuel is present...but more than likely its your distributor coil

the fuel pumps are pretty quiet. have a friend turn the key to ON without starting the car, while you listen from inside the rear left wheel. you should hear a short buzzing sound. if not, probably your pump. there's a way to test your fuel pump with a multimeter, but i can't remember. also, there's a fuse for your fuel pump, although it may not be labeled "fuel pump". it wouldn't hurt to just go ahead and check all the fuses.
and if the D4 light is flashing, you need to pull the stored trouble code.

I would check for spark...if you have no spark its more than likely your ignition coil. Get out your helms/chiltons it will direct you how to test it. I am betting on this if you don't have spark.
I was going through the steps.. and wasn't sure what to do next as I didn't have anyone to help me check for spark. I decided to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then reconnecting, and oddly enough, after that the car started up. When it started it was idling very high, over 1500, then started surging 1500-2000-1500-2000... after I let it warm up it was fine, idling around 6-700. I don't get it.
It could be your main fuel relay...when it gets hot during the summer they are more prone to failure because the solder connections melt a little bit....which will cause the car to not start intermittently. I would check that first. Just take it out and look at the back of all the solder connections, maybe resolder a couple of them if they look cracked, and that may be all it is.

Where is the main fuel relay located and what does it look like?
I have a '93 that intermittently does not start and I'm pretty sure its a relay. When it doesn't start I just keep switching the ignition off and on until finally I hear the fuel pump and then I crank it and it goes, works every time. Unfortunately it's becoming more and more frequent. Once it's running there is never an issue.
