i thought all sir1 b16 tranny's were the samn.... y1 is just a case, it was also on the LS's. so if you're refering to the b16 gears, i think they're all the same or really close if not. i have an s1 in my DA, i'm pulling 4000rpm @ 65mph in 5th. a good friend of mine has a b16 y1 in his DA, he's pulling 4000rpm @ 65mph in 5th.

S1/J1 is said to have same short gearing, Y1 is said to have longer gearing. There should be a noticeable difference between the Y1 and S1/J1. I dont believe the Y1 stamping ever came on USDM LS's. U might be think of YS1, which came on USDM LS's and GSR DA's, as well as JDM integras.

EDIT: S1 came on JDM B16's (short gearing) and it also came on USDM LS's (longer gearing). After looking at some gear ratio charts, the JDM Y1 and USDM S1 have similar gearing, so that may explain why u and ur friend have same RPM's if not very close. Remember, not all tachs read the same. Is your S1 the one that came with your DA?

i was refering to JDM s1 and jdm y1 for b16's. my jdm s1 pulls 4k @ 65mph.... his jdm y1 b16 pulls 4k @ 65mph. it seems like the same gearing to me.

YS1's for DA's only came on 92-93's... they the big splines. 90-91's had the Y1 for LS's i thought. IDK, my buddies is a 91 SE, his had a YS1 on it... but it wasn't factory (obviously) and its what he bought the car with.

if its a b16 y1, yes.... the b17's gears are similar to b18c gsr gears. and the b16's gears are significantly shorter.

I have had both the Y1 and the S1. To my experience the S1 has shorter gearing. Be careful though (as stated in an earlier post), there is a USDM (LS) S1 tranny which is obviously longer.

i'm pulling 5k@80mph on my s1 with 185/60r/14 tires (about 23inch wheel diameter)

i know i'm pulling 5k @ 80ish cause i got clocked @ 79mph by a cop on my way from ohio to NC. (i dont have a speedo, so i just watch the tach)

JDM Y1 is NOT shorter than the USDM GSR YS1. JDM Y1 is similar to the USDM LS ratios. i have only seen DA LS teggys come with A1,S1, and YS1.

these are pulled from g2ic:

Transmission Ratio (:1) RS - LS - GS (manual) GS-R RS - LS - GS (automatic)
LS GSR auto
1st 3.230 3.307 2.647
2nd 1.900 2.105 1.483
3rd 1.269 1.458 0.974
4th 0.966 1.107 0.725
5th 0.742 0.875 ---
R 3.000 3.000 1.904
fd 4.266 4.400 4.428

then i found this:
http://www.allmotorhonda.com/t...s.htm

but it has the wrong gear ratios for DA ls's so its info could be false.

came accross this:
http://www.autocrossing.com/cgi-bin/gearcalc.cgi
but it doesn't give tranny codes except the s1 and j1

this one seems accurate:
http://www.angelfire.com/mech/....html

please someone come up w/ the right info. the Y1 looks similar to the S1/J1 in 1-5, but has an LS f/d. the USDM S1 is the 90-91 LS tranny, the YS1 is 92-93 DA tranny... YS1's have ratios for LS, then gsr/xsi/rsi

From the list you've provided, 3.504, the YS1 reigns King among the cable trannies for closer(faster acceleration), then the S1/J1, next the Y1(despite its weird first gear ratio), finally the S1/YS1.

Comparing the S1/J1 vs the Y1, similarities in power are very close in 4th, and probably not noticable if all in 5th, but the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears are very different.

Hope thats what you were asking for.

To answer the first question, (In One ******* Post No Less), the Japanese S1 has a 4.40 FD, so that makes it shorter than the Japanese Y1 with 4.26 FD.

with the Y1, every shift from redline takes you back to 5200. With the S1/J1 every shift brings you back closer to 6000-6500 RPMs.

Easy enough.
