Is buying used pistons not a good idea?
I want to buy some used pistons, but i heard that each piston fits each block slighlty diffrent, is this true and is it a bad idea to use them?
i bought some used, they worked fine just get the block honed and new rings make sure you gap the piston to wall clearance.
check the pistons for abnormal scoring on the sides, and any unusual dings or dents on the tops and bottoms... If that looks good, there is no problem using them in most cases.
Used pistons are fine. Just inspect them for any obvious damage. Have your machine shop check piston to wall clearance and hone the cylinder walls. Buy new rings. Besides, where would guys who go through pistons like some people go through spark plugs be if there was not somebody to buy their used pistons ?

or, Just play it safe and buy a new shortblock from the dealer LOL
There is absolutely nothing wrong with using used pistons as long as they havent been abused (look at skirt for abnormal wear, IE scratches dings etc)
There was a guy that started some rumor stating he used bad used pistons that were warped or some garbage and caused his rings not to seat. He didnt back anything up and just caused misinformation.
It is standard to reuse pistons and throw new rings on them as long as they are in good condition with no visable damage

First off, used pistons are going to be somewhat worn. This means they probably won't fit quite right in your cylinders. Especially if your cylinders are somewhat worn as well (but inevitably in a different way). Clearances might also be wrong due to manufacturing tolerances. Your best bet is to get new pistons and have each cylinder rebored to accommodate a specific piston in the set.

how about some used bearings to go with it?..hehe j/k dood used pistons,i guess if you could see them in person and take measurements to make sure they fit properly..good luck
depends on the price difference and depends on the type of person you are.
honda oem pistons are $180 all day long, and i have NO PROBLEM paying that price for my piece of mind.
are some used pistons good? yes. are some used pistons ****? yes.
this is where you have seen several peoples opinions and why theybelieve as they do. now it is time for you to make a decision and choose what you are comfortable with
good luck on the build
