Default Supercharger Questions

I have a 1991 CRX with a d16z6 and I also have a friend who blew his engine d16y8 in his 97 Civic EX. He has a JRSC on it that didnt get put back on when he got the engine replaced for free....

My question is since he is hit up for money, and I have some, could I put this charger on my engine? cause I could get it and the timing control box for about $500

your gonna blow your engine too. get a turbo, why wait till you get to the redline for your max psi when you can be at full boost around 2500rpm's

Why would I blow my engine... it is being rebuilt this winter specifically for a supercharger. I just want to know if it will work. Thanks. Also why should I spend a crap load of money on a turbo and controllers and tuning it, when I could get a jrsc for next to nothing?

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=688120 notice the dyno graph... JRSC Advantage 0-3800RPM.... where I want the power to be at. How often am i going to be getting up to 7500RPM on the street?

You wont blow your engine, that guy is an idiot.

Install it and tune it correctly and you will have no worries.

However ask yourself how many times you will be at WOT under 3800 RPM. Maybe in first, and thats it. So thats really not a valid arguement for the JRSC.

Personally, I would scrap together a junkyard turbo kit for alittle more than that and be much happier.

From what I have read about junkyard/homemade turbo's, most of them blow up the engine. I just need to know if this charger will fit and all I need to get is the belt bracket.

Anyone know? Please I need a response ASAP....

anything will blow up your engine if you don't tune it well.

You must be ignorant....you think at 2k rpm or even 4,500 rpm on a SC you are at full boost? You dont reach full boost till your are at the red line. you set the psi, and you get to the max at the red line.... go read up on the diff between sc and turbos

home made turbos wont blow up your engine if you have it tuned. and gettin a turbo you would be more happy, your gonna spend just as much trying to tune the sc

Go turbo, it might even give you better gas milage when your just crusing.

And you are not helping me with what I asked. I did not post a thread asking will this supercharger BLOW UP MY ENGINE. I understand how boost works. I don't need a tutorial explaining it. I also don't need someone telling me to go with a turbo when, first you are not buying it for me, and second you dont know what it is that I will be doing with my engine.

So once again, does anyone here know if the chargers are interchangeable?

I'm thinking you are referring to a centrifugical SC like a Vortech, The JRSC has a Roots SC, which makes full boost very low. I've found that it helps me not to look like too much of a dumbass if try to limit my posting to things I actually have some real world experience with. After running a JRSC for a year I can tell you that it makes boost instantly at any RPM and has much better low end torque than a turbo, which I have also run for some time. The turbo blows it away in the upper RPM range, but that's mostly useful for drag racing. For daily driving or autox the JRSC rules, for big HP numbers and drag racing, the turbo rules.

Most of the parts are the same:

The manifolds are the same part# as are the brackets and S-pipes, so you should be able to make it fit if you are mechanically inclined and understand how the system is supposed to operate. Just be careful upping the boost with different pulleys, the Eaton blowers are very thermally inefficient and without real good engine management and big injectors it is easy to blow up your engine at anything over 6-8 PSI of boost from it. At 11 PSI my Eaton blower on my JRSC was putting out air that was over 200 degrees.

Also pay attention to the alignment of the alternator and idler pulley brackets. If the belt is not perfectly lined up it will get loose a lot, requiring weekly adjustment and losing boost at higher RPMs. I had to shim my upper alternator mount by about 1/4" to get the belt lined up right. After that I just had to check the belt once a month and it made full boost all the way to red line. you can tell by deflecting the belt with your finger, the tension should feel the same across the width of the belt. If one side feels tighter than the other, then it is not lined up correctly and will have problems.
