Default Exhaust raises boost?

I put a magnaflow catback exhaust on my d16 turbo and it raised the boost up like 5psi I lowered my manual boost controller and I couldn't get it down to were I wanted it so I took it off and the gauge is showing ~7psi now and its set internally for 5.5psi. I don't see how an exhaust could raise the boost beyond what it is internally set for.

happens all the time, chief. There are a number of reasons it could happen, but you know you wanted to run more boost, anyway
