Me = 86 Si... I put a new headgasket in her and i think the timing could be off slightly doesnt run quite right until after 3.5K, sputtery and jumpy idle stalling slightly in lower rpms... i know im a noob and you all know this but how do i advance or retard the timing using the distributer. any help will be greatly appreciated

If the timing belt is off, you ceratinly won't be able to reset the timing by simply moving the distributor. The valve timing has to be correctly synchronized with the piston timing or the result will be what you have....

when i changed my timing my friend who knows more about engines than me that helped me do it said " i doubt it'll even crank cause i think the timing is off 1 tooth" but being impatient i decided to try and see if it would crank anyways it didnt even turn over twice before it fired right up, smoked like an *** for a couple seconds but eventually stopped, i thin kit smoked cause there was some transmission fluid on the pistons from where i was cleaning them but anyways its been like that since, 4 months ago.. i beat a 00' eclipse rs with the timing off.. lol

at first mine fired right up but when i turned of off and on again a few times by the 4th time it wouldnt start and it was smoking like a chiminey i was thinking that maybe i didnt torque down the head bolts right but maybe its because of the leftover coolant like yours hopfully it is .
