Default timing all thw way advanced?

my timing is all the way advanced at the distributor and i still cant get it to stock timing.

i have a b16 w/ gsr hear. could the deck height be throwing the timing off?

Did you jump your service connector before setting the timing?

how exactly are you setting timing? Is it an adjustable advance timing light? If it is what do you have the dial set at and what mark on the crank pulley are you aiming for?

at evans tunning. so im guessing he knows what hes talking about when he told me he can only get 12 degrees of timing with the distribtor all the way advanced. i think its a combo of gsr head w/ b16 block or possibly a distributor issue.

sounds like something with the cam timing. I had an issue on a car a few days ago I was tuning where i couldn't get more than 0 degrees with the base idle timing set at 16* in the timing maps. It turned out to be way messed up cam timing. I fixed that and everything was gravey

I would think if Jeff could only get 12 degrees with it all the way advanced he probably added 4* throughout the maps to resync everything to where it needs to be which would bring base timing back to 16*. Are you sure he didn't set all that up correctly for you already?

yeah the car was tunned and everything worked out good. im just wondering why im having this problem, it seems odd. and the car was also a little down on power and maybe this has someting to do with it.

i was thinking that might work. or getting adjustible cam gears and adding timing that way. but i want to find out whats causing this. after i change the valve seals ill re-set the timing and cheak it again.
