Weird Noise Around 3k RPM's
I have a 97 GSR and in every gear around 3k rpm's it makes the weird rattling noise. The car drives fine. Is this normal for Integras?
Btw, the car is all stock except CAI and exhaust.

It could be the famed 'heat shield rattle'. Try bending the heat shield above the catalytic converter so that no part of it can come in contact with the cat, then see if the noise goes away. My old GSR used to do that only in cold weather between 2000-3000 rpms, I bent it out of the way and it was fine. Some people remove the heat shield completely.

need some oil?
need some air
mine shake in 1st gear when starting at 1.8k rpm and that about it.....
call up and shop or come to a shop ask them about it..make sure mention about free estimate and tell them that the problem...see what they say...i would if i was you...

Theres Something that is with GSR's that is in their stock header/heatshield. I had the same exact thing and so did my buddy. Get an aftermarket header and it will go away. (make sure that the noise is coming from your header first)
Read this also. Happened to me recently and i think its coming from some part of my exhaust.

Sounds like the header. I just bought a 98 GSR with that issue. The guy I bought the car from told me what was up and included a Comptech Exhaust header when i purchased it. Apparently the inner ring rusts out or something? He had taken various heatshields off but then discovered it was the header.
But yeah, right about 3-3,500 rpm it makes this irritating buzzing sound.
Apparently it's harmless, but i'm going to get the new one installed when i get my timing belt/90k service done.
Good luck

Check the heatshield that goes over the exhaust right under the shifter. That one is notorious for nasty rattle, also check your cat heatshield. I called acura about it and they OK'd me to remove it and said I'd have no ill effects.

Yea that's exactly what happens with me, right around that rpm range. It's very annoying.

Before you buy a header check both of the above. I had the nasty 3k rattle and doing both of these eliminated it totally. Use a broom stick and tap the cat heatshield and see if it's loose. Next remove the heatshield going over the exhaust pipe, it's only held in by 1 bolt, 12mm I believe.
