burning oil after 5000 miles on oem rebuild Please HElP
b17 block pr3 head
I have about 5500-6000 miles on a oem rebuild. All gakets seal bearings the works. Also added the following
ctr pistons
ctr cams
full itr valvetrain
all the itr bolt on intake,tb,header
Now the problem, car ran great for about 5000 miles till I started spitting black smoke. I figured I was running rich so first thing I checked was my fpr and it was on 60psi wot. (**** b@m garbage) So I replaced it and set it at 50-51 car ran fine for about 500 miles. Now Im spitting white smoke and theres no coolant mixing but Im burning a **** load of oil about a quart a week but the smoke is only visible under load.
1st question could spark plugs that werent threaded in tight enough cause me to burn oil in any way I dont think so but just checking.
2cd could I have been running rich for to long and washed the cylinder walls with to much fuel and glazed them making the rings unseat?
3rd I have never checked compression before and im looking for a how to so I can see if its a headgasket prob. I know remove the plugs hook up the gauge but how much/many times do you crank the car. Do you give it a quick little crank or more of a 1-2 sec. crank.
thx in advance for any help

94 octane is what i used for about 4500 miles of the build then stepped down to 93 which I think should be fine for my comp. Anyone else think my octane isnt high enough?
Does a jdm type R piston yield a lower comp than CTR, Enough to make it work on 93 octane in a B17.........

i have the same bottom end as you, and yes you do have about 12.3 cr because CTR pistons stick out of the hole .010". but it is fine to run on pump gas but i just retarded the hell out of my timing. ive been running 93 octane on mines and its been fine...so far, only have like 200-300 miles on it though. try a cyl. leakage test. more precise than a compression test IMO. i got no more than 5%, which is right for a fresh rebuild.

fi you think that you might running rich and washed cyclinder wall with unburned fuel why would you ask for more than 94 octane?
92 is efficient enough, i gues you running like 400wph
