ok guys stupid ? here but bare with me...i just got my '00 Si and im loving it, i had gotten rid of a '96 trans am ws6 i miss her but now im in teh 4 cylinder world/fwd world and its a new experiece for me lol, but like how should i drive this thing when racin it like launching and redline and shift points how high can i go into the red if i even can...im used buttloads of torque and rear wheels spinnin not my front end hoppin :\ but any tips or help would be greatly appreciated thanks

BTW its got a dc short shifter (is this a good shifter or not its like really loose when in gear like it feels like its in nuetral theres that much play in it) dc strut bars, thermal exhaust, i think a dc header, dc short ram intake, thats pretty much it perf wise

 

Fuel cut off is 8200 RPM. I never take either of mine past 8000 RPM. Some people just dump the clutch but try feathering the clutch it helps with launching.

 

car is gone because i had it during high school and now goin to be commuting to college everyday so i need a better mpg car but still a fun car none the less

 

how about you tell us how you've been driving it.

 

well im shifting right at redline 8000 rpms and launching droppin the clutch around 2500....sooo but yeah and this shifter is all like wierd are your guys/gals like that lie ill have it in any gear and still be able to move it side to side quite abit

 

got a digi cam? i would check the shift linkage to see if anything is loose. try launching around 5-5.5k

Try launching a little higher, say maybe 3000-3500 RPM and feathering the clutch.

 

most FWD drives u dont dump the clutch cuz ull just spin out me thinks....so what you do is feather at 2300 to 2600 and slip the clutch out...thats what i do on my civic...and it works well, the first couple times you do it, go back and check ur skid marks, see if they're shaky, if they are, then do something diff, if they're nice sex smooth skid marks....nice one

 

get under the car and check out the bolt that goes through the base of the shifter to ensure that its tight WITH THE BRASS SPACER WASHERS. these are very important. as for launching... 3 grand drop and pedal through the spin. once youre off the clutch dont feather it out at all.... if you do, and do it a lot... youll be replacing it soon. i drop the clutch @ 2800-3000 and the speedo instantly hits 50 MPH. then i just spin and pedal through it until i his 7200 and shift... ive gotta LS powered 5th gen hatch

 

Shoulda kept the TA and bought a beat down geo metro for the commute only.

when the other guys are talking about "feathering the clutch" they mean slipping it... i dont do that. once my clutch is engaged i use the gas pedal to work out the spin. i launch at a lower RPM than most people because my car is a lot lighter and there is a lot more torque. since im riding on street tires i spin REALLY bad.

as for the shifter being loose. look under the car, where the shift linkage meets the base of the shifter. there should be some washers in there where they come together. just make sure everything is tight.
