what distributor is he using? if its the a6, than obd0 ecu(i dont know if they make an obd1 to obd0 jumper harness though) if he is using an obd1 dizzy, than he has to use an obd1 ecu.
theres more to it than this though, you also have to have the right o2 sensor depending on what ecu you are using. hope this helps a little.
