Long term Turbo durability
I have a 1997 GS with 75k miles on it and would like to add a turbo kit. The car is an every day driver. I have seen a lot of info on turbo kits (i.e. performance at the track, etc., but nothing around durability. Assuming the kit is installed and tuned properly to start, run every day at low boost (~5psi), what is the long term effect on the engine? Does anybody have any longer term experience?
Let me just say that how well it's tuned, setup, and how well you maintain it will greatly reflect on the amount of life you get out of a turbo'd car.
i'm bored and curious myself...
given that both cars are well tuned and all work is kept up with on them.. how much difference in reliablity would be a 5psi car vs say 10psi...
is it the amount of boost that matters or is it the care taken/tuning that is the big difference?
