Engine Rebuild Update: Day 5
Well, I didnt finish as I had hoped. A few thing sgot in the way which lost me about 2 hours of time and it got freezing cold around 9 PM so I called it a night.
I started the day off around 1:30 and went to install the flywheel/clutch on the engine and realized I forgot the new pilot bearing I had bought at work! And it was Sunday..work was closed! So I spent an hour get a hold of amanager at work and getting them to open the office so I could ger my part.
So I installed that stuff and then went to drop the engine in...went real well and only took about 10 minutes to get it bolted to the tranny. I then ended up stripping a bolt hole on the top tranny mount, so now theres 2 of 3 bolts only...oh well.
I got all the mounts on and everything and then I had to put the AC Compressor on...what a ******* pain in my ***! I have those polyurathane mount inserts and with the insert in the mount I could not get the bracket lined up with the block. After an hour of messing with it..I took the insert out and it bolted right up.
So then I put the alternator and starter on, plugged all the water hoses on and some senors and slapped the head on. Torqued the head down and plugged in the rest of the sensors. I then got the cams installed and the timing belt.
All I have left to do is do a valve adjustment, install the crank pulley and the header and its ready to fire! So definately tonight!

Hey I just wanted to add, when you've got all the pics and everything else going, can you take another sound clip of your car as I never got a chance to hear the idle of the 404's. Thanks!
No...cause its gonna be a few weeks of breaking in the motor.
Truthfully, I dont expect that much on the dyno. While I *should* see some gains from upping th ecompression by 1.8 points over stock, the main objective of this rebuild was reliability.
Im not even sure what gains Ill see, might not even be that much peak..maybe more midrange. It would be nice to see 180-185 WHP though

Don't forget the increased displacement
I am sure you'll get the 180-185hp.
I'm glad you are gonna take the time to break it in, but don't get goated into pushing the engine before it is ready like what happened with the clutch.

Haha...hey..the clutch turned out fine right?
But seriously, Im definately gonna take it easy...this is too costly and important to mess up.
