Default installing front and rear GSR brakes on EK..looking for tips

hey, i got my sways done last weekend, so now i'm going to be adding GSR brakes, front and rear, and the 99-00 civic si master cylinder and brake booster and porportioning valve. i have GSR front hubs and GSR rear trailing arm assemblies w/ both GSR ebrake cables and 99-00 si ebrake cables. the 99-00 civic si are about 2 inches longer. i'm also going to be adding the master cylinder and p valve. i'm looking for tips from those who have done this conversion, especially the fronts. thanks for any help..i also have searched this topic quite a bit, i'm looking for more technical pointers as i'll be doing the work myself.

I would think most (if not all) is a plug-n-play type of install.
Though I've never changed a MC/Booster or PropValve before.

It's nice to hear you have the Si MC/Booster/PropValve. Smart move!

The fronts shouldn't be hard at all - in fact the whole install shouldn't be that difficult. Have you ever worked on your stock brakes before?

I'm sure someone will chime in soon with some more TECHNICAL tips.

Check the faq thread. Both me and =gameova= have done writeups. His is much better than mine though.

i'll look for your write ups.

i'm actually a truck mechanic, but i do car work on the side, so i'm familiar w/ brake systems.

Everything is pretty much a bolt on application... but when I was doing the fronts, the first problem that I encountered was actually removing the knuckle from the ball joints... they seemed to be stuck, and no matter how hard I hit it with a hammer, they wouldn't come off.

In the Helms, it shows a picture of the specialty tool used to remove it, but I didn't have access to it, so I ended up using a pickle fork and was lucky enough not to screw up any of the boots.

I guess the second problem I had was when I started trying to put the castle nuts on the GSR knuckle, they wouldn't screw on because the previous owner hammered the sh*t out of them to get them off of the car.

Other than that, it's just the normal bolting up everything.

if this is a hatch, there's no need to change the prop valve. 99-00 si and EK hatch prop valve is the exact same part.

and don't forget the flare nut wrench...

i've heard this somewhere before but is it true???

i'll go ahead and install the brakes w/out installing the p valve, then drive the car a week, then change the p valve, and see if there really is any difference.

look on hondaautomotiveparts.com at the two cars. part # is the same... it's different for the coupe's though... changing it will be a waste of time and brake fluid...

Yeah, the prop valve and the brake booster are the same part # as the SI's on 96-00 Hatchs, so when i did mine all i changed was the MC to a SI MC. Works great.

I just did the conversion on my hatch All I have to say is soak all the bolts with wd40 over night. And if when you trying to take a bolt off and it seems kinda tight dont keep twisting the bolt cause honda bolts are prone to break very easily I found that out the hard way I had to get two bolts drilled out.
