vafc and vtec problem(searched)
i just installed my vafc and my vtec isnt engaging so i pulled the ecu back out and the connections to/from the vtec sensor seem fine...i really dont know what else to check. also my tach in the dash is about 1000rpm higher at midrange (4000 rpm on the dash tach and 3000 rpm on the vafc tach). but i've read that honda tach are off and that some apexi electronics give faulty rpms for some reason. any help would be greatly apprieciated

you wired it incorrectly somewhere.
1 - how did you make the connections? solder, etc..
2 - how are your ground wired placed? one of them (brown i believe) needs to be closer to the ECU then black.
the tach should be about 400 RPM above the VAFC tach. trust the VAFC once everything gets working properly. until then go by the in dash tach.

thanks for the reply. tomorrow im going to solder all the connections. today i used male/female connectors, i knew i couldnt trust them. i did place the brown closer to the ecu but the gap between the brown and black wires from the vafc are only about an inch apart, will that make a difference? also, i just hooked everything back up and the vafc rpm readout was at zero so it was definitely the connection. thanks for the help

Did you get the correct sensors, cylinder number, and throttle arrow setup correctly?

i dont think the throttle arrow will affect anything car wise. but i could be wrong about that.

whenever possible never use connectors. they add a load to the system and do not pass the signal like a proper solder job will. dont forget to heat shrink them as well.
an inch apart is fine.
