air compressor question
So I recently got a job at a radiator shop fixing rad's out of big rigs earth movers and basicaly anything with a rad. Well I got a little adicted to the air tools. So the other day I went to the swap shop and bought a 2hp 6gallon 120 max psi compressor an impact wrench and a cut off wheel all for $87. Well it seems it's not big enough for power these tools. So I was wondering if I could larger tank and use the same pump if that would solve my problem. Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Dan

it really depends on how the duration of tool use. if you just want to take off a set of wheels that will probably work, but if you intend on using the cut off wheel for more than one minute you will need more volume. hope this helps. still a good find though i would have bought that stuff for sure.
That's a pretty small compressor even for hobby work. You could replace that tank or add an additional bigger one to the compressor, but as nota944mechanic stated, it depends how long you're going to use the tools for. You can get a 60 gallon tank that will take for ever to get up to pressure with a 2 horse motor, but it will last a while once it is. I bought a 2 stage 5hp 80 gallon campbell hausfeld for $200 and rebuilt it. Serves all my needs (multiple air tools, hvlp paint guns, sanders, etc..) good luck.
I've got a 2.5 hp 12 gal. and its alright, better than no air tools but I only use it certain times of the day out of courtesy of others. If I use my dye grinder, it runs non stop.

he's exactly right. Mine is a 5hp 60gal and it spits out like 15cfm at 40 and 12 at 90
this is off the top of my head so don't quote me. One thing though, don't buy those cheap ones that will only last you 2 minutes with a grinder

i basically have the same compressor, but mine has a higher max psi.. i use it only as a traveling compressor, not for home use.. you need a bigger tank for sure..

Just look for good deals on ebay and ****. I found a 25 gallon 4 hp craftsman for 100$ and picked it up real quick. It'll be fine for what I do around the garage and house.
