Default Planning on getting a accord coupe (98-00) hesitating between i4 or v6..

I actually have a 94 accord coupe, the 4cyl is alright, but not so powerful (i know its not a sports car)
I enjoy driving manual, but sometimes i get fed up of it (damn traffic..)

I have kind of an interest in the coupe v6 , more torque, more power.. But a fragile honda automatic transmission.. I like the fact that the car is more classy (automatic temp control -could i switch it in the 4cy model?-) (gas shocks for holding the hood -could i swap that too!?-)
what do i have to expect from it? Anybody disappointed about it? having problems?
Is it kind of economical too?

without beating it, can you have fun with the car, without breaking anything? lol

please help me out!!

The tranny is worthless and will be a definite headache before long. Also if you plan on doing any engine mods the 6 is more difficult to get gains from and to work on. I'd get the 4 manny simply because of the horrible slushbox. Just my opinion

Yea i'd just get a manual 4 cyl for better reliability. And if you need more power some good boltons or turbo kit will be just fine for making up the lost power. A turbo kit on the 4 cyl on sensible boost levels is almost always more powerful than the 6th gen AV6. I'll give you some numbers tomorrow when I pick mine up

Ouuu yeah turbo eh

Well i like the fact that the 4cy is easily tunable..But i'd like to know, without going turbo, what can i do that will add more torque at low rpm? Im planning to go with 2"1/4 - 2"1/2 exhaust line with 4-2-1 headers, less restrictive intake (not cold air but shielded from the engine heat) anything else? Cant wait to get a nice car without rust...

More low end torque ehhhh? Buy a V8. Really you won't get much low end torque out of a small engine, but who needs it? I find everything over 5k RPM to be very exciting. There are some cams that may help, but you won't find too much torque from any modification. And with Honda and their 4 speed auto V6 trannies you definitely want to go manual 4.

I just bought myself an AV6 and the ride is like butter. If you think about it, the benefits of having a nicer engine, 6 indash CD changer, side airbags, supple leather, power seats, auto climate control, traction control, pressurized hood supports, remote trunk release really outweighs a fair auto tranny. Besides the tranny comes out of the lot with a 7/100,000 warranty. ENjoy

i like low end torque..i hate having to wait till 4400 rpm to get some fun.. its fun, but in the practical side, iiisssshhhh...
the v6 interests me alot, but without the manual trans... iiisssshhhhh
Dilemmas..!!

i guess ill have to test drive both of them to see the real difference..!

I'd look at reports online after testing too. Most problems come from 6th gen accords and Acura TL's, which were basically the same platform...

Maybe even hint to the dealer that you know the transmissions are bad... 'I'd love this car except for all the reports about failing transmissions...' haha and see where THAT leads you.

Personally, myself on my second transmission, with 2 years/65k left on my warranty, would rather have the peace of mind of a manual than hoping my transmission will last...

thats a good point.. I spoke with a salesman at honda, in the used cars part, he told me he've seen lots of problematic accord with the auto trans..
Plus, he even told me that the rear fenders on the honda were made on purpose to rust so easily..Well, who didnt know that eh!? heheh
Things well do to make the economy run...

If iw as you id just opt for the 4banger and turbo that thing. Ive owned a 4anger and now have a V6. It does feel alot faster but its not. A 4bager with simple bolt ons can run with a V6 accord already and thats sad. Only thing i dont like the 4banger is how ricey it sounds vs that of a car with more cylinders.

If i could do it over i would just get a 4banger EX and turbo it. The 4banger i had b4 was a LX and i hated it. I do love all the options on teh V6 though.

Do you guys think i can switch some accessories from the 6cy into the 4cyl model?
Like, with some mods, take the automatic temp control, the motorized trunk opener?

What kind of seats i could swap if i had the cloth ones? I was thinking about those from the 3.2 cl type S , but do they have airbags in them?

The leather seats will swap over. I also believe the leather heated power seats out of an Acura TL will swap over as well
