New New York Emissions testing?
Hi Guys,
Does anyone know how the new NYS emissions testing is going to work? Supposedly they are going to plug into the computer looking for problems (current and previous)?
How ill this affect us if we have tripped the engine light?

hes talking about the NEW EMISSIONS laws and testing that are going into place. The "rollout" supposedly started in June with facilities installing the proper testing equipment. OBD2 cars thats are converted to OBD1 or OBD0 might run into some problems, and Im sure they are gonna be more strict about test pipes, exhausts, etc.
Im just saying. we (NYers) have it easy right now. But its gonna be like Jersey soon and its gonna suck unless you know somebody.
side note, Jersey is retarded. My friends S2K pulls into the testing facility...they never realize it was rear wheel drive and put it on the wrong rollers, they tried to tell him that his HID's werent stock, and they made him get a new gas cap. He got documentation for the HIDs, but they still failed him for the freaking gas cap. weeeeeeeeeee!

that sucks about the HIDs... and the gas cap is a emmisions thing- if it does not vent properly the car will fail. It happened to me when I was living in Fl.. I had to buy another one
NJ is tough without a hook

yeah, hopefully it won't end up like PA...
our emissions is strict as hell, and safety isn't much better. plus it's gotten alot harder to "purchase" a decent inspection

Back to my original questions:

Looking for some real answers.
Thank you,

You want real answers on H-T??? hehehehehe
If its like NJ, and you have a CEL you WILL FAIL.
I doubt it will be much different then other states for the simple fact that OBD2 is OBD2 and how much variations can they check for.

They should be able to hook it up, unless you change the port on the driver's side where they plug it into. Buddy's b16 has a JDM ctr computer and from what I understand, they run obdII plugs, with obdI programming. His gave no response for second o2 and a few other things, however, when they pulled it off it said it passed. The mechanic told him that he has to fix it by next inspection.
So, in answer to your question, the obdI and obd0 will fail (unless you get lucky like him) because the programming for certain parts is not there. Also, a mechanic told me they can see how long since the computer was reset, so don't try to unplug and reset then go. At least that's what he told me, I don't know him so he might've been messin with me. Hope this helps.
