Default How/When do you guys check your oil levels?

I try to check my oil levek at least once a day. Sometimes i have trouble getting consistent readings. Say in the morning when the car has been sitting for the night and is dead cold the oil will read to the top dot. But say i go get gas during the day and i let it sit for 5 mins then check the oil its only at the middle between the dot.

Im just kinda worried cause there is an oil leak on the back/cam side of the engine....i think its from the cam gear seals or even maybe the headgasket...but i dunno if that would cause such variations.

I check mines atleast once a week. But I look under my car everyday to make sure there are no leaks.

?? thats stupid , if you run your car you wont get an accurate reading as the oil will be all in the motor.

Why run my car then check? Shouldnt one check in the morning after its been sitting a while to get a good reading when the oil has all drained to the bottom?

I check the car cold, and I fill up the oil to just a little bit above the "full" line, to account for the oil in the turbo and lines.

I am always paranoid. I try to check it everytime it has cooled down. If I see a spot in the drive way I will go check it again.

Proper way to check oil is when the car has warmed up, NOT when it is cold.

I check mine when it's hot & running. This way I know the oil filter is full & I want the level proper when running.

ok so which is it? When its warm or when its cold? The thing is, for those who say to do it when its warm, how do you know that when the engineers at honda were designing the engine, that they didnt take into account the amount of fluids that would remain in the filter and whatnot, therefore designing the dipstick tyo take this into consideration?
