Default Engine problem

Hi,

I was driving to the dmv to register my prelude (i bought it like 5 days ago) h22a with lsd tranny, and as im looking for parking, because its such a bitch over there, i stop, because soemones backing out.

as i stop, my rpms shoot down to 0 (clutch in, gear 1) and the car dies out on me. i thought i stalled or something, but i notice my clutch is in. i try starting the car, but nothing.

ended up registering my car, but getting it towed to a mechanics. charging me 100 for a diagnostic check.

but i would like to know, if any one of you had the same problem or anything with the engine.

when i try and start it up, it seems liek the battery is working fine, and everythign is rotating correctly, but i cant seem to get it to 'catch'.

any help on this would be appreciated

thanks

At this point it could be so many things. You need to start with the basics, which are making sure you have fuel and spark...

I have had the same problem with both of my motors, F22A1 and H22A. Happens more often when it is hot outside. It seems to be a problem that a lot of preludes have. If I let it sit for a while it will start right up.

yeah could be alot of things....but you might want to check the ignitor or coil....

my old prelude vtec died on me a couple of times when drivnig and when i try to start it just cranks like it wants to start but doesnt...

first time it was a dead coil, second time was a dieing ignitor...

also check your main relay!!!!!! The solder connections could be cracked and not making proper contact. usally hot temp makes this thing more intermitent if its worn. what gen car do you have esca ?

Its usally a problem in 4th gens. With 5th Gens they did a recall on the ignition "barrel" . It would cause the car to shut off while on a freeway or just driving around.

exactly what mine did as soon as the engine was warm enough the car would die. let it cool off then starts right up.

wouldnt that mean you can never drive in warm weather?

lets say you go to work or school or something, and its a blazing 90+ degrees outside, when you get back to your car to go home, it wont start =p

what did you do to fix it, 93h22acx?

replaced the ignitor and worked perfectly but rev started being irratic so no vtec....it was the magnetic pick up...so i bought a new distributor.

just buy a new distributor from distributor king or buy a used one....if it is the distributor just unplug the two plugs and remove the the 3 bolts and then pull it out. installation is in reverse order with the exception of lining up the distributor shaft to the camshaft and use a timing gun.
