Default What the hell? Engine problem majora?

Hi all - I bought my 1992 prelude Si with 1996 motor a few months ago and always had problems, second and third would grind a lot and if i got a bad start on the clutch, the car would studder (under steady throttle) in any gear, between 2.5-3.5k rpm. Problem is fixed by turning off car, turning on, reversing, then going from first.. however if I got a rough start, the problem would happen again.

So, I was told that it was either my clutch assymboly or transmission causing these problems - so I replaced both. A transmission that checks out, fully warranted, and a brand new ACT HDSS clutch with 8lb Fidanza flywheel.

CAR STILL STUDDERS! Getting a "rough" start doesn't really happen now, its just sometimes really difficult to get a clean launch.. and when I don't this problem comes back. Between 2.5-3.5k rpm it'll buck back and forth like it wants me to downshift, but will do it even after i downshift.. if I mash the gas it doesn't do it, but people literally say "STOP ACCELERATING LIKE THAT!" thinking im tapping the gas on and off to make heads bounce, but it happens even when pressure is steady.

Also lags all the way up to vtec essentially if it's in its studder round.. feels like all torque disappears. The tach never cleanly rises when its in the shitty condition..

Any ideas guys? My timings good, valve cover was pulled today, cams good, timing good, shop has no idea.

Thanks!! Sorry for the huge story of blahhh...

your engine might have a terrible case of piston rings being out, at low rpms your getting a lot of blow by....that would cause the studder problem, but if its good at higher rpms i doubt thats the problem......you also may have studder from the flywheel, did you cut if before you put it in? if not you probably are getting some studder from there.....do a compression test and then see...that will tell you if its the rings

Thanks.

Yes superslow, I know of that thread, and the thousands of others that surround the issue - but mine is different. I can almost assure you. This isn't just a bogging when I tap the accelerator or something, this is bucking like a bitch. I'll try to videocam it.

I'll get a compression test too.

Engine mounts pooched? Sounds like the engine is jumping around. Maybe your drive axles Slipping?

sounds like a fuel or spark related issue. For sure get the compression test.

If thats fine, check fuel pressure and so on. If it was something electronic related you should have thrown a code by now.
