hydrolocking your car..
im about to put a CAI on my car without the bypass valve. it rains hard sometimes here in MD, but i never drive through huge puddles and none of the roads are ever flooded around where i live.
how much rain do you have to drive through to hydrolock your car? does the filter have to be completely submerged in water? how bout when it snows? is it possible the filter could get clogged with snow? should i switch it back to the short ram?

i know people down here in miami that have had CAI for years and never had a problem.... just avoid puddles, the water would probably have to be high enough to flood ur interior for it to flood the intake
ive been running a CAI in MD for two years and no, we dont get enough rain to hydrolock your motor. If you run through high water your bound to blow it. You could hydrolock your motor in mexico if you wernt smart about it. Just avoid big puddles and you wont have a problem.
PS my buddy here in MD did hyrolock his motor, but he went through like 8 inches of standing water

Dude, DO NOT DO IT!
My friend wanted me to put one on for him which i did after giving him a lecture on what could happen and such. Well needles to say, 4 hours after he got his B18C1 swaped in his hatch, rained like a mother and you could not even see the road. Got into a pudle and the car died. Pushed it to a buddys house, opened the throtlebody and the intake manifold was full of water. Long story short, Cant compres water so the weakpoind of the motor ( the rod ) snaped. When we went to start it the next morning, teh remaining part of the rod put pretty good holes on the block. Had to get a new block and what not. So thast my experience with cold air intakes.
You decide.

usually people dont know when there's a puddle or not or else they would have avoid it. sometime driving at night while raining, itll be hard to tell if there's even a pothole with light rain. its not worth that extra 2-5 hp. you wouldnt be able to notice it anyways.
