Default to those who shift past redline

Hi, to those who shift past redline, does the engine produce a horrible smell?

I searched and i found this https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=566553 but nobody mentioned if any odor is produced when shifting at really high rpm.

The reason I ask this is because I (unintentionally) shifted at 8k rpm and was scared shitless. But then I read that thread and dont feel that bad now, but my engine did produce a bad smell right after the shift and after a couple hours, the smell was slightly still there. It drives pefectly fine so far, I'm not sure about noise. I thought I heard something different, but when I went outside to listen I didnt hear anything unusual.

did you ride the clutch? the smell is probably the clutch, kinda smells like a combo of burt plastic/rubber.

It was probably either a bit of clutch burning or some oil being burnt from the rev's.

Don't worry.

I wouldn't worry. I've bounced mine of the 8.5k rev limiter a couple times and haven't had any problems yet.

Thanks, that's good to hear. But I dont believe I was riding the clutch. What happened was I was driving in a lane and was already at 6500ish rpm and this car just cuts me off, so I swerved over to the next lane, and by the time I looked down and changed gear, I saw it dropping from 8k. Thanks again for the quick replies.

yea, 8K on the tach is fuel cut, tis a weird feeling isnt it? You should be fine, if you were mashing the gas and miss-shifted it would be a different story. no worries.

Keep in mind that there is a bit of a factor of safety. 8000 rpm = 7600 true rpm. The dash above v-tec is conservative. Ask anyone who has a VAFC or had dyno'd.

You should be fine. I would NEVER hit the limiter though.
