Default Engine Identification\Specifications

Allllllright... I know there are plenty of places to look (including HT) but I just checked my resources, and I just want straight info to see if I can find what I am looking for.

I'm told I bought an XSi B16A from the guy that sold it to me. He said he knew it was from an XSi because of...

-The J1 transmission
-The Intermediate shaft
-The Axles
-Some extra vavle or some **** on the Intake (I forget what it's called, but I've read on here that it's an identifying mark for the XSi B16As and that it slows down decelleration)

It's got all of that ****, but I haven't checked to see if it has the 10.4:1 compression instead of 10.2:1 compression that the CRX\Civic SiR B16As have.

Something else I read was that it redlines at 8,200rpms, however, I raced my buddy in his Grand Am tonight and I was expecting it to pull more RPMs before it rev limited at ******* 7,200rpms which I was surprised to see happening, which ******* threw me off guard and made me miss the shift to third.

That and I finished wiring the VTEC side of the harness ( JDM O2, Knock Sensor, VTEC, VTEC Pressure Switch ) but I'm not quite sure if VTEC actually kicked in or not. Something to add to that is that I have a completely stock exhaust system. Can you not hear it as well\at all on the stock exhaust?

Also, I'm gettin a check engine light. Is that always gonna be there after a swap or no?

Also, the dude told me the motor has passed Echeck everytime in the 5 years he owned it. However, I had a full tank of 87 octane before the stock motor blew. So I put in this **** called Enviro Max Plus or whatever. It's supposed to boost the octane 4-5 points, clean out the motor, increase gas mileage 10-30% (depending on vehicle) and increase motor performance. The exhaust is coming out black when I hit the gas. Is that the octane booster cleaning out the motor and getting the **** out of the exhaust? I've talked to a few people that say not to take it to Echeck yet and to go through a tank or two of actual Premium Gas (around here it's 91-93 octane) WITH the octane booster\motor cleaning\happy juice and wait for it to clean all of the **** out of the motor. Any thoughts on this one?

I wanna hear from DroppedCRXSi if he reads this one

I don't want any criticisms or "try using the search feature". I'm tired of using it, it never shows the threads I need no matter what combination of search words I use.

Please if anyone knows the answers to any of my questions lemme know. Thanks HT!

Okay okay... so I have a 90-91 XSi with the 10.2:1 compression, PGM FI IM and the J1 tranny which is not as short as I thought it was..

The ECU is from an Automatic and it Rev Limits at 7,200.

I'm getting a check engine light, but I don't know how to tell what code I am throwing when I look at the ECU, any help there so I can check tomorrow morning?

Alright, I am throwing a Code 21 and a Code 17. That's the VSS and VTEC. All the wiring is correct, all I can think of is to go back and solder all of the connections ( I twisted and electicral taped the wire-to-wire connections) and see if that helps, but the VTEC wire is in the solenoid and the Oil Pressure wires are right.

I know what the problem is with the VSS I am not worried about that.
