Default P28 OBD1 ECU - JDM or USDM?

I just bought a P28 OBD1 ECU with OBD2 sockets for my UK ITR, which I need so I can run Hondata engine management. I'm getting a solid CEL and the car won't even fire up properly, let alone idle.

Someone has suggested it might be a JDM ECU, rather than a UK/US one - can anyone tell me how I can tell the difference, and whether this would cause a solid CEL?

Would the Hondata map be different for the two ECUs?

are you running a hondata map on it now, or did you just plug it in and go? it shouldn't matter what country it came from.

I've only had a solid CEL when there's a problem accessing the external ROM. ie - There isn't one installed, it's installed incorrectly, or the program loaded is corrupt.
