Default dyno tunning my car

I am currently running a 2000 b18c5 motor. I am planning on getting my car dyno tuned and was wondering if I should get a vafc or If it can be tuned just the same without it. Without a hack or anything what can be done to tune it? Just a fpr and cam gear timing right? Any info will be appreciated.

sounds like your engine isnt modified enough to warrant wasting that much money on a dyno tune.

once you start making drastic changes to the engine (cams, pistons, FI, etc) thats when tuning becomes more important. a bolt on engine, for the most part, dosent need much tuning.

there is always an advantage to having your car dyno tuned just because you know for sure its making the most power possible and as safley as possible, but the 200$ you are gonna spend on tuning a basically stock engine can be put twords more modifications that will actually require you to tune in the future.

a VAFC will tune your air/fuel ratios, if you need to have that adjusted yes its a good idea. a stock ecu does not allow the same level of tunability (if it did nobody would buy a VAFC). the only things you are gonna be able to do is ignition and cam timing and if you have an adjustable FPR, that too. but since its pretty stock dont expect tuning to make a big difference in power from start to finish.

fix your timing with a timing light. Unless you want to fine tune your timing by watching for detionation on the HP curve, which I wouldn't recommend since your car is pretty stock and its well known how much timing you need so u wont need to experiment that much.
