Well, after a few major problems with my heavily modified NA V6 Mustang, I'm thinking of getting rid of it. I've got 3 tickets, so insurance is high, and my gas mileage has taken a huge drop with the engine parts. I think the smartest thing for me to do right now, would be buy a 4 cylinder car.

The first car that came to mind was a black 99-00 Civic Si. I was just wondering if this would be a good model to start with. I'm not a fan of hatchbacks, even though they weigh less and can be made faster. And I've never really liked the new Civic bodystyle, unless it has a lot of work done to the exterior.

I'm not planning on doing anything big to the Civic for now, but I'm definetely not going to leave it stock. For now I just need the car for the good gas mileage and lower insurance rates. Here's what I have planned for the car so far...

18" ADR Cypher wheels
Eibach Sportlines
Caster Camber kit
Limo tint
JDM smoked headlights
Greddy Evo2 Exhaust
DC Sports header
DC Short Shifter
AEM V2 CAI
AEM Pulleys

Let me know what you think about the car & parts. I'm trying to decide if I should go through with this.

There are three threads at the top of the forum to read about this. Always search first.
18s are pretty big for a civic and most people here will flame you for them. Try like a 16" (looks clean and still has performance capabilities).
Do a search on what parts are good. I don't know how cheap the insurance will be though. I live in MA with 5 tickets and my insurance is $2300 a year for a 93 del sol.

 

What kind of HP were you putting out in your V6?

 

Get rid of the 18s, V2 and Pulleys. Invest in something else.

 

why would u waiste money on a 6 banger? eee... anyways, 2000 civic si's are the second most stolen car so your insurance will be huge like mine 'i have a 1999 civic si' i pay more then my mom does for her corvette monthly.

 

Dont expect great gas mileage from an Si. What do they get? 25/30mpg?

civic si or integra gsr have good motors to start with. If I were you I would say **** those mods you have listed. Everything there would be over $2000 esily. Coming from someone whos been there, just buy a turbo kit or piece one together you will be so much happier.

 

from evansville? I heard theres not much people in to imports in that city. Anyhow..Why a v6 stang. Im sure the Si you want will be faster if the v6 stang was a 98 or older...I wouldnt get 18's...Get some 16s or 15s...Id get a turbo kit...a magnaflow exhaust system is good...Eibach springs are good...H&R is good also...Im sure you will be happpier a modded si than a v6 mustang...those cars are slow and unreliable ( my best bud has one and he doesnt even beat on it and it breaks)

 

buy a stock civic 99-00 si and do you own modifications, will turn out just how you want it. great choice though, i wish i had the loot for one of those. look into integras as well, the ls and comparable models are reasonable and easy to tune (ls/with vtec head and computer puts out a lot of power and isn't that expensive).

I own a black 99 Si and I love driving it 1st and 2nd are really fun to drive in.. As gas milage they are like 25 city 30ish free way... Get your lights, tint. Then look into some rota slips or circuit 8's.. Then tubo.. At most a kit will cost you 3k and you can have either close to or 300whp

 

i wouldn't get a dc sports short shifter...one of my friends had one and when he was racing it broke...i have a skunk2 short shifter and i love it. it may be a lil heavy but it's alot stronger than a dc sports..and if you get a skunk2 short shifter get a skunk2 shift ****...it's made to go with the shifter.

 

Don't forget double stack wings, bodykits ands neon lightings. gl

As for your list, I would definitely lose the 18s.

ya insurance might not be too cheap, costs me about 3 g's canadian for a 94 si coupe with no tickets or accidents.

I was thinking the same thing... but I just didn't want to say it Maybe no as fast, but with a few mods

 

and pulleys are just ricer crap, they do nothing. the si is a fine model to start with, but if you want to add horsepwer, actualy modify the engine. bigger tb, polish the intake runners/portch match, hondat gasket, and some cams. 18" rims.. big heavy adr's... stupid ricer stuff like that will have you looking like a idiot noob in no time. get some 15's/16's if you must get rims.

 

i'm 18 and i own a 2000 civic si....my insurance is $2400 a year under my parents insurance and with 3 speeding tickets, and i went to court once for street racing. if i was on my own insurance it would be $6000. insurance is not cheap these days.

 

^is the car under your parents name? My 99 hatch is under my name, but I'm insured under my parents name and I'd have to pay almost 4g's for full coverage a year so I only have liability for 2g's a year. I have absolutely no tickets or accidents. Never been pulled over once.

 

it's under my parent and my name...but my dads the primary driver and i have full coverage
