Default D-series to D-series: Axel removal

Can I just swing out the arm that the hub is on, and let the axels hang instead of removing the axel nut? (car has 180k on it, that ***** not comin out)

I always have, I suppose it depends on what you're doing and if the axle could possibly be damaged.

Should work, just be careful not to let anything fall on them and butcher up the splines

You can just leave it hang. I've done it plenty of times.
