Default A Mutt DOHC Vtec???

Im building a motor for my 95 coupe. Im trying to do this cheap so i am kinda piecing the parts together from all over the place. I have a B16a block(si) and a LS head with GSR cams. If i get a vtec selonoid will the head be just like a GSR??? Is this decision good to mate a GSR head with an SI block??? What can i expect from this mess????

in short no, you cant bolt on a vtec solinoid and have vtec. your going to have a 1.6 liter ls basically.

I think you can expect a mess from that mess. I don't even think gsr cams will work in a ls head...

to make an LS head vtec, you're going to need to sell that head and buy a vtec one and no your gsr cams are not worthless, they just don't work on that head, i think (definatly not vtec at least LOLOL). you can always sell them to help save up for a vtec head, or some nice cams for your LS head

Seriously I would strongly suggest doing some searching. Honestly.

What if i put the gsr cams in a b16 head? Am i better off just selling the cams and keeping the b16 head stock???

yes I believe GSR cams will fit in a B16 head, but there will be timing issues,
BUMP for the correct answer, I'm like 99% sure on that tho

but why were you going to put a non-vtec head(LS) in place of your B16 (vtec) head?
It is normally the EXACT opposite lol

A couple of things:

-You can't change a non Vtec head, into a Vtec head.
-A Vtec cam will not fit in a non-Vtec head, and the other way around.
-You can put the GSR cams in the B16 head w/out any issues. It's not worth it IMO, but it fits right in.

If you're looking for advice, I'd say save some more money, do a little more research, and you'll be on your way. HT is an excellent learning resource with pages, and pages of useful info. I personally have a "mutt" engine myself.

Why not put gsr cams in a b16 head? If he has them why not?

There's nothing wrong with putting them in there, but I wouldn't waste my time. I've never seen dyno results, or felt any positive results from doing it. Unless you have an automatic B16 head, I'd just leave the stockers, or save up a couple hundred bucks for an ITR cam if I was keeping it low budget.

Agreed.
But thats the problem, I've never seen any positive results from that swap. I've driven a few "before and after" set ups, and felt no difference at all, and the dyno showed no difference either.
