STRANGE homemade turbo question someone HELP
ok i was told by a tech who works in a local some what reputable shop: that a "homemade turbo setup" is not a good idea because mateing the turbo adapter and the hf manifold wont work because they are 2 diff. metals and that the turbos have been known to fall off the manifold, but he did say that happens only with the stock manifold but a ebay manifold would be ok cuz it would be the same metal as the adapter. so has anyone ever heard of this b4? is it true??? thanks
no It may be diff metal but ive never heard of them messing up anyhow or "falling" off. There has been many good homemade kits. In my opinion its better than a bought kit because its cheaper and you can use exactly what you want to use

It sounds like he is talking about welding the turbo adapter to the HF manifold. Why would you want to do that anyway? Just get a threaded adapter and it will be fine.

He's an idiot. Plain and simple. Mine has over 5000 miles on it without any problems. And what about all of the ones people are using on http://www.homemadeturbo.com? there aren't any reports of failures that I have seen.
Now how about that cheap eBay SS Autochrome manifold? That's another story indeed. Try running a search on SS Autochrome and see what you find.

The '88-'89 Standard model Civic has the manifold I recommend. It flows better than the HF. It is identified by a #3 on the 4th runner.
I chose to coat the manifold, adapter plate, exhaust housing and downpipe in high temperature ceramic coating.

You gotta love turbo + AC

Sorry i didnt write this all in one post...i just finished reading the rest....man that guy is ignorant. I know a bunch of people who use HF exaust manifolds on their D series turbo (usually a RHB5 , IHI turbo off of an old prob or a mazda)
