Dirt track racing Honda's. Just wondering if anyone else here does it.
I have run a honda on circle asphalt last year and half of this year. Just wanting to talk to someone else who run dirt at another track. I am about to switch to running both dirt and asphalt.
Details? Car? Setup? Sanctioning body?
You can't just throw this at us without any details! Not that Iw ant to dirt track race, but I sure in hell want to hear about your experience with it!

I don't 'race' the dirt track... but have taken the ITR out onto the dirt track for the "one-on-one spectator races" (one lap standing start) for the past 2 years at the "back to school" monster truck show.
Super fun in a fwd car... I just wish I had 4wd and 3 times the power output.
I have video of the last time I was on the track.... I just need to capture it and upload it.
It was a very close race vs. the Mustang (I did not know I had won till they told me).. and Humpy Wheeler came up to congratulate me.
Then I lost to a pickup truck.
fyi.

One of my all time favorite moments here in H-T'ville was the thread and video of Will's dirt track moment.
Doesn't get any better than that!

Here in N.E. Ohio we have a 3/8's dirt oval.
The class is called Mini stock, comprised of any fwd 4 cylinder cars. Mostly we see Ford Escort GT's (late 80's).
Rules:
no glass, chicken wire for a windshield (if you want), 4 point cage only, 500 dollar claiming rule, no snow tires- street tires only, stock trans, stock motor, stock shocks and springs, stock this and stock that only....low buck effort.
I don't have a car built yet, but have watched several rounds at the track and am considering using a crx or integ. Last year a teg (1st gen) ran up front with an Escort GT, most of the field (15 out of 17 cars were fords)....
seems the 1.8L B18A1 (non-vtec) is the way to go.
heck for cheap it seems, you could go racing on dirt...looks like a blast.
I like the claiming rule personally. If someone protests you on the claiming rule, you have to sell your car for 500 bucks, if you deny the protest it costs you a hefty fine, the second protest you deny, the fine goes up, the third time you deny, your kicked out of the track for the year....ouch
The track and rules are at Buckeye Speedway in Orville Ohio....
http://www.waynecountyspeedway.com/rules_MS.html
it is like 50 bucks to enter, 200 to win or more depending on the event.
Looking at building a car over the winter for next season, I think it would be a great way to keep up my road racing skills, like ice racing..

hi chris.
i guy i used to auto-x with, way before i started wheel to wheel racing, used to run in one of those dirt track series. he was a dyed-in-the-wool VW man; he always ran a scirocco; it was as you described -- all stock everything, no glass, simple cage, stock street tires. i think the only thing he really had done to it that was trick was that he welded the front diff up.
he used to have a ton of fun; low buck style!
have fun and i hope you clean 'em up!

that's awesome.. i thought i saw something similar out here the other day in the local dirtrack monthly newsletter, but I've still gotta look into.. I swore I saw a guy with a trophy standing next to a civic.. most everything else is rear wheel drive.. although I guess I could get into that too..
Circle track on dirt. I havnt done it yet. It looks like a blast. I ran a 92 civic on 3/8 and 1/4 asphalt last year and half this year till I sold it and bought faster one to build. I should have my new car ready to try it next Sunday.
There isn't a sanctioning body I know of. Everyone calls them ministocks. Has to be stock engine. Only body mods is drivers door gutted for door bars on roll cage. Only race parts allowed are seat, harness, nets, fuel cell (optional). street tires. All the interior has to be removed except dash. Pretty the same at all the tracks I have been to.
Crx's started showing up this year after they seen how our civics did this last year. Couldn't touch them. That is why I got rid of mine. then the crx's started popping up at the dirt tracks. civics could hang close, but couldn't beat them. Hope the prelude I am building will run with them
. When I finish it this week, I will try and get a before and after pic up. The guy I got it from hydro'd it around a power pole. luckily I had access to a frame rack. Got the car dirt cheap, then sold the 18" wheels and two day old yoko's. all the glass, front nose, alt, pw steering, a/c, and lots of misc parts. All I like, is getting they cage finished, welding on the door skin and sun roof skin. then popping the seat in.

AS far as setup goes, I have my differential welded. I run a F22 Block with a H23a1 head. I run a h23 crank and had the block bored to run h23 pistons. The car has to remain stock so i use stock parts. Also i dont run any acceories no altenator or power steering and i dont run any counter balences. All batterie power. This week i am going to run 13 by 8 inch wheels with 225 55 50 treadwear tires. and plan on running 3rd gear.
your pushing the limit on stock a bit ain't you?
If it aint in the rules, try it. one track i race at freak out and banned one of my teammates for resurfacing his head after an overheat warp for the remander of last season. still within stock tolerance but, oh well. i think they just hated hondas.
Is Muskingum 1/4 or high bank 3/8? i noticed the speed chart on the site. 13 sec is fast. west ky speedway fast for down here and is mid bank semi-clay 3/8, and ump open wheels run 18.5 to 19 sec.
you tried snow tires yet
. full tread on front, rear shaved.
