Default egt in downpipe, searched... 1200+ degrees

ok ok, I know the first 85 responces are gonna be telling me to tap the manifold... lets skip that part if possible cause the dp is already tapped and done.

anyways. seeing just bearly over 1200 on WOT/ 950-1000 cruising (on a hot day)... thinking too much timing but someone said too little would be just as hot... soooo heres the setup listed below... anyone wanna guess at how much timing they would have pulled in my situation??? does 1 degree per psi sound like alot?

f22b1 8.8:1, 93 octane or better always, running 9-10 psi per my gauge (although I do not know how to convert my vafc numbers to double check that?), 450cc injectors, vafc (-22 at the top end), t3/4, big cooler, etc etc.

edit: I gather there is about a 200-300 degree cooler reading at the downpipe flange were I tapped.

EGT temps are a very touchy subject. Doing all kinds of things can change your temps and make them hotter or colder. There is a huge thread on it somewhere if you search. As for your temps, I would get a timming gun and see what the timming is at, retarding if nessacary, and make sure that you have enough fuel by going and having it tuned with a wideband to make sure that you dont lean out and blow your motor.

Good Luck

too bad you did it wrong the first time. now you have to go back and do it over. there is no real way to compare a proper reading off the head to one in the down pipe. plug the downpipe and start again.

your problem is: VACF hack. it screws the timing alll up.

I am not trying to compare readings off the head to in the dp... I was just trying to indicate I was aware the head/ dp readings are going to be much different by a signifant amount of temp.

I really am having a hard time with this cause I dont wanna tap a the manifold that cost me mucho dinero and is a one of a kind.

the timing advance is minimal by the vafc at 10 psi (j davis explains this in a vafc thread he made.) and I pulling like 8 degree off the stock base timing at the dizzy.

btw anyone know how to convert the vafc intake mani pressure reading to psi ???, I moved sources for the boost gauge and I wanna double check it.

also an added note I am definately gonna get it on a wb immediately... the timing BS is been just throwing me a major curve ball. I wish I had the extra money right now to install the socketed p28 with the data in here.
