d16y8 head on a d16a6...will it work, or a d16y8 motor in a crx (will it mount up to a si tranny)
The head will fit. That's called a mini-me.
The tranny will also mount to the block.
so yes, and yes.

I would highly recommend swapping the whole motor, then you know that you have a strong low mileage motor. Mini-me is a good thing if you want to save cash...It's cheaper to buy a complete y8, as opposed to re-building the a6 bottom end and using the y8 head.
this is why im asking.....my fren in our crew just bought a 1991 civic si. he also has another car...a 99civic ex with a jrsc running on a 8lbs pulley. i know most people who do the minime use the z6 head but i dont see too many people using the y8 head. i know the 92-up civics use a hydraulic tranny. and anything below for that uses a cable tranny.
nm....i didnt read some of the post completely...thx for the replies. we mite have a swap on the way....a y8 motor with a jrsc in a 91 civic si. woohoo..another fast car in the crew other than mine and my cousins car (1995 cx hatch with a h22motor w/100 shot of NOS)

I agree, defintaly swap the whole motor. The easiest way is to use the stock si engine harness (extend the map sensor plug to reach the map on the Y8 throttle body), injectors, and distributor. I'm pretty sure the stock si dist will bolt right up to the y8 head. Then, for vtec activation i would send the ECU to Zdyne for the 1-wire vtec conversion. Check it out at: http://www.zdyne.com/convhome.html. It costs about $300, but thats still cheaper then the full OBD-1 conversion. You can also just use an RPM switch to activate vtec as you prolly know, but i wouldnt recommend that with the JRSC. Good luck
